Hello guys

So I am currently in TSF frames and recovering from a bilateral tibia deformity correction. It was a mild case of procurvatum deformity in both tibias.

This is via the NHS so it’s paid for by my healthcare. Im not paying for this surgery out of pocket.

My surgeon has allowed me to lengthen a small amount also. He said I can lengthen between 1cm to 2cm. The choice is mine.

However, considering that it’s with external, I absolutely hate the fact that I will have to stay in frames for a long time.

So far, I’ve lengthened 0.4cm. The choice is mine.  I can either go for 1cm or 2cm.

I’d love to ask you guys, how long would I need to stay in the TSF frames for each of the lengthening amounts?

How long for 1cm along with mild deformity correction?

How long for 2cm along with mild deformity correction?

And finally, what do you guys think about possibly getting a nail, so I can get rid of the frames earlier?

I’d love to hear from you all

Thanks guys

It is said that for tibia it's 1-2 months for each cm lengthened..
I think that the older you are the longer it will take. It might also take as much as 2.5-3 months per cm.
I know of a guy who did procurvatum correction only and he was 6 months with the frame. However he was 10 years after tibia lengthening with ilizarov so that might coz him slower consolidation, maybe.
I think tibia lengtheners are misinformed about the duration of the healing phase which is sad. At least thats my experience.

About the nail, yes it shorten the time with frame but it puts a risk of the nail getting infected. It should be done only by an experienced surgeon, they have to make sure the pin tracts are not in touch with the nail thats inserted, otherwise the risk is there.. I think there's about up to 10 percent risks of nail infected with LATN, reading from some research.
That's a problem I'm facing myself and thats a dilemma.

If you do only 1-2cm I think you should avoid the nail and bear the 4-5 months time with the frame.

Thank you so much for the reply. I’m 27. Diet is dialled in.  Take supplements and will take Exogen and peptides to speed up bone healing.

It’s a real dilemma. I’m probably going to go for a small 1.5cm, but then the question is about nailing or not.

Do you know any affordable surgeons in Europe that I can trust for a potential LATN?

Right now, I hate the fact I’m in frames. But maybe as time goes on, and my legs strengthen, it won’t be as bad.

Thank you again for the reply!

How long do you think I will be in frames for 1 cm lengthening and mild procurvatum deformity correction!

i'd say 10 days for 1cm and 1 month for bone growth.
20 days for 2 cm and 2 months for bone growth.

Is that your personal experience?
I'd say whatever you wrote only double it.
