I thought Dr. Paley said that about 6.5-7.5 cm were the max for the tibias (and 8 cm for the femur). Is he right? What do the vets think about this?
I personally think the max safe limit is 6cm for tibia.
and the best method for tibia is external monorail that is weight bearing. (even Paley agrees with this)

as for femur, external has a MAX limit of 5cm.
for internal femur supposedly you can lengthen more but I don't know.

Paley said that monorails were better for the tibias? Do you have a link?
I don't plan on lengthening my femurs externally. Paley said that 8 cm is a good limit for the femurs internally.

my friend was told this in an email with paley.
but remember not all monorails were created equal. a lot are crap.
Monorails have their own problems, especially if you're muscular because bulky patients have a tendency to get x-legs with them. It's also more difficult to treat equinus wearing monorails.
My legs are fairly muscular. How are x legs caused?
I have had monorails and ilizarov fixators. Monorails are 100 million % better idea. Less damage to soft tissue. No wires going through muscles or the knee causing damage. Correction with monorail is very easy aswell. Better sleep, less pain so you can exercise more. Ilizarov treatment is old style treatment. Things have progressed. Monorail is the best treatment. I think it is better than internal tibia lengthening devices aswell. Easy to remove device, no need for 2nd operation, half the price,
Only thing about monorail is you need to use crutches all the time. Not a real problem in my book.
Yes, but scarring from monorails is the worst of all methods.
Scaring is very easy to fix and most scaring is caused by infection. Ilizarov treatment is the worst for infection so leaves more nasty scars. Scar treatment is eAsy, just cut the scar out and stitch it nice and clean after you finish lengthening. Monorail leaves 6 screw holes scars and 1 longer scar where the break the tibia. Ilizarov leaves nearly 20 holes after removal. Cheaper to fix 6 holes than 20. I've had both ilizarov and monorail fitted to my legs so I know without question which is best.
Salemfix hello guys srsly? o_O that is way better
