i think shoulders length is the most important"

But cant you just make your shoulders bigger and upper body wider by lifting weights?
you can, but you dont have much control of this. everybody is different, and you cannot predict the maximum amount of length that you can achieve in shoulders by lifting
also you will burden yourself with lifting for the rest of your life

Don't worry if you're narrow shouldered  or average shouldered guys.I personally think it's a combination of torso , shoulder width and arm length.
Broad shouldered guys can get away with lengthening more in the same way as guys with long torsos.

Anyway after one surgery none of this  matters too much ,even if you go for three inches.

However if you go for a second surgery this stuff will certainly come into play and your proportions will be something you'll need to consider.

Edit: And yes you don't want to become a slave to the gym and bulking to look proportionate. Since I'm a naturally skinny guy I'm simply aiming to be toned since it'll be easy to maintain.

Very important thread. These news articles are often based on shi*ty data and unreliable "studies", the articles are made to generate as much clicks and reads as possible, that's how they turn out to be sensationalist and exaggerated like "Young Dalmatians are now 188 cm on average". Journalism is in a big economic crisis world-wide as online media and the internet wipe out the foundation of print journalism. Journalists who try to make it in the field, sadly, often resort to try to get as much fame and success in numbers as possible, instead of placing value in reporting the truth.

@GrowTow: Overall great posts, I'm a little bit suspicious to the average height in the north of the UK being 6'1'', are the Scottish really that tall? Only the Dutch reach that average, and Dutch and Scandinavians would be the tallest "white people" from what I've seen. Wasn't Scotland a rather poor region historically?

I also see no reason that cities would be taller than rural areas in Western countries, and haven't seen any reliable evidence that this could be true. Places like Tokyo shouldn't have better health care than the rest of Japan.

Thank you and I agree very unreliable journalism is going on here. I also think it's suspicious that 6'1 would be average in north england. ive visited north cumbria and the average still seemed 5'9 -10. Another thing to keep in mind is that shorter people often find it hard to tell heights of people substantially taller than them so our English friend in this thread could be confusing some 180 cm blokes with being 185 cm.

I can only add that not everything is so simple, for example average height in Russia by study conducted in 2013, is exactly 178 cm (when we include all man), I myself was there for a long time, and I myself 178-179, so I'm sure that those  studies are legit, and if we only count young males(16-25 y. o.) then this number will change to 181-182

If a study uses a stupid biased  survey to gather information on male height then it isnt a legit study.

Many studies have shown that men over-estimate their height by over 1 inch or 2.54 cm

Also if a study purposely adds centimeters to the final average height in order to "estimate final height" then it isnt a legit study

Also could you post a link to the russian study you are talking about?

Actually the Wikipedia page about average height in the world is very good.
For exemple German average is something between 5-9 and 5-10. So far from the stereotype of tall blonde people of 6'3
And yes, I confirm, european average (developed countries in general so I include Korea and Japan) are exagerated
But it's not the case of my country, french official average is 174,5 (and a few cm more if you include only young people, of course) and it's totally accurate with what I see. And don't forget that my country is multiracial with north african people but also tall and short african ethnicities (I see both, but where I live African are the shortest -Comorian, Ivorian and Congolese- but I know that Senegalese for instance are among the tallest in Africa).

When I talk to strangers from northern Europe or Eastern Europe, they always tell me that French are shorties and tanned people (while I'm very white for instance). It just irritate me a lot when their country is just one inch taller in average than us at very best. Sometimes not even.

The study about dinaric average has been made in ONE VILLAGE only

Look. The Dutch average on the Wikipedia page is only 181 cm and SELF-REPORTED (so usually inflated by one or two cm like the UK average). We are far from the stereotype of very tall Dutch . So, where come from the idea that all Dutch are like 6'5 ? I just suspect people to voluntary exagerate

It's like, when I claim that Flemish average is about 5-9/10 people look at me like if I was crazy telling me that it is 6ft at least

A list of non-european people who can rivalize in average with them : South Sudanese, Senegalese, North Indian (Punjabi, kashmiri), Polynesian, Rwandese Tutsi, Chadian, and probably more I don't know etc

@knik , thanks for replying, I also wanted to say I never claimed wikipidea doesnt have accurate studies but I claimed usually when seeing a study on above average countries, you can definitley see bad methodology of the study leading to fake numbers like 6'1 for dutch and montenegro. Which leads to people having worse height neurosis

Of course, but let's see honest most people lie
each time I go to a chat group for instance, their is that moment people exchange their height, and each time the average height of the group is over 5-11 and sometimes like 6-1
of course internet let you the possibility to lie easily, but I'm sure some people lie that much even in the real life
sometimes it may just be by comparing themselves to other people or celebrities they see at TV and self-estimating
