hi jujulia.

thank you for posting before doing your surgery.

I think it is important to get feedback before doing any surgeries. especially when deciding on becoming shorter.

this might interest you.

yes you will get scars if you do it, and your legs probably wont look as thin.

One of the doctors I had a consultation with told me that he doesn't recommend leg shortening because the muscle compresses and looks bulky, the result being unappealing to the eye. Another told me that you will lose a lot of muscle strength after leg shortening and will need to work very hard to gain it back, probably more so than with leg lengthening. You should contact some doctors directly with your inquiry.

Great info , thank you all ... that is my biggest concern ..to go through surgery and the long recovery, money , time etc etc and my legs look hideous afterwards . I contacted the Ilizarov Institute and they said they would do a two parts surgery ..they would take one inch from my tibia and another surgery done afterwards to remove another inch from the Femur and that way I shouldn't have any deformity .. all of that for two inches ..oh and it should take me at least one year to recover Leg Shortening Pretty crazy huh ??

how about your arm length ? do you think it gonna be proportional with new height ?
5'7 is great height for a girl, as well as 5'9

hello i am 6ft and a girl, i hate my height i honestly feel like it controls my life, i would kill to be 5,6 or even 5,10. I have thought about extreme measures like surgery and think it could be an option, although mostly i would like to love my myself, yes i am tall and that dose pose problems but why dose it feel like it controls my whole life, there have been nights where i have cried myself to sleep or i won't go out of the house. People discriminate against me all the time and i feel like i always stick out. I am torn between accepting it and surgery, dose anyone have any thoughts?

The main points to keep in mind are the ones discussed in this thread. Leg shortening can cause muscle bulging which can make your legs "stouter". Leg shortening will make your legs shorter, but nothing can make your torso shorter, so you will end up with short legs. Most women want long legs. The surgery is not easy and you will be out of commission for probably 6 months or maybe a year.

If you want any feedback on what you'd look like with the surgery, you can post a full length picture of yourself in sports attire (eg. sports bra and short gym shorts). Someone can no doubt crop it for you to show you what it would look like if you lost 2-4" in your legs.

Whether this is worthwhile to you or not will be up to you at that point.
