I find it fascinating to interact  ..
Mostly I am here because it is really, really difficult to get LL out of your head! It's much easier to accept the things you can't change. Plus, I am curious about the two current Dr. Guichet diaries (dream catcher and takanori), and about two of the upcoming diaries (yours paddyton, and penguinn)

Edit: Ok, more honest answer about why I am still here. I find it cathartic to be part of a group of men that have the same "problem" I do, short stature (even if I am not really that short)

Sure sure. You can kept denying it real reason youre here is bc you are planning for your own surgery in the near future :p

I'll scratch this option out and stick to my original plan: Get better, high demand qualification and find a high paying job at any of the rich countries I've mentioned.

Listen those Microsoft and other certificates dont mean a thing in North America.

Might as well learn to throw an oddly shaped ball really well and sign a $140 million dollar contract in the NFL.

Expensive 2" ub40! Peace of mind is priceless in my opinion though...

Yea man, peace of mind is gone now but I couldn't settle down or relax because CLL was an itch I couldn't scratch. My goal when I head back home is to look for a career that I will enjoy rather than chase after money. It would be nice to have an internet based job or something on the side but atm I haven't found a viable option. I was pretty miserable at my old job but it was great making being so loaded at such a young age with no commitments

No, that's what I mean. You can always make more money, but you are achieving peace of mind with the CLL, and that peace of mind is priceless.

Quote from: CCMidwest on July 22, 2016, 05:53:38 PMHate to be pessimistic, but...

There is no "risk" that you'll face by investing in the stock market right now, you are all but guaranteed to lose money.

Here's the deal. I am getting about a 2% rate of return on my stocks right now. That is below inflation rates. I literally make better money holding cash at my local credit union that gives me 2.5% on checking accounts.

At a 2% return:

$1000 will earn $20
$5000 will earn $100
$10000 will earn $200

Etc...

Even investing the full amount of your LL surgery only nets you $500 the first year.

Let's say you get the full market average for NYSE: 9.5% (good luck with that)

A $10000 investment still only nets you $950 the first year.

Stocks only work in 2 scenarios:

1. Long term buy and hold for 30+ years

2. Large sums of money invested at once (accredited investor situations like mine)

Be carefull with invest in the final stage of a bull market. USA economy is near of the next recession (9-18 months), this bull market is the second longest and you can loss a lot of money or 401k.

Stock market is for a long term investor or professional speculator.

Now S&P is all-time high

EXACTLY.

I'm selling like crazy. I'll be almost 100% out of the US stock market by the end of next month. Waiting for the recession, then reinvesting.

"The S&P 500 begins the new year with a price/earnings (P/E) multiple of about 18 times trailing 12-month earnings per share. This represents a valuation higher than about 74% of the time since 1945. While a relatively high valuation, it remains far below its post-war record of more than 30 times earnings in early 2000, and as recently as the 1990s, the stock market delivered nice returns from valuation levels at or above today’s P/E multiple.

Most U.S. stocks, however, are much more expensive than suggested by the S&P 500 Index. The median New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) stock is currently at a postwar record high P/E multiple, a record high relative to cash flow, and near a record high relative to book value!"

I think we will see new highs in the 4Q2016.

The sentiment is very negative in the managers, but FED,BOJ,BOE is doing FOMO injected liquidity and stocks rebounded rapidly.
Dont fight against FED.

This is the forecast.

Probably right about quarter 4 going up, which means I am selling before the top. However, this is an election year, and I expect Trump to win.

If Trump wins, there will likely be a stop to, or decline in, injected liquidity from the Fed. This "should" put a stop to the anxiety investing and cause the market to drop. Additionally, I expect that bank reserve regulations should become more lenient, which would cause the banks to start lending some of that massive reserve capital that they currently hold. (again, assuming Trump)

If that happens, I expect large inflation rates for the US dollar to follow. So I've pulled that stock market money and put it into real estate. (both real property and REIT's), so to catch that value increase. Rents should follow inflation, more or less, and therefore pay down the properties debt load faster. Additionally, I catch commercial interest rates that are lower, as I expect the prime rate to increase due to increased lending and the Fed. Residential rental demand typically increases in a recession, so rental properties are as "recession proof" as you can hope for, assuming where you do business doesn't end up like Detroit.

The challenge at that point would be to sell the properties at the inflated price, and reenter the stock market after it drops. Easier said than done of course.

If Hillary wins, then who knows...

A little update, this place hasn't been much helpful so I was researching like crazy especially on Reddit r/PersonalFinance. Most of the info. I've found has been pretty demoralizing in terms of getting a high-paying job in US as a foreign, young graduate with no savings. I've came to the realization that I have a LONG WAY to go.

CCMidwest, there's something which caught my attention. I've read about people who invested lots in Bitcoin back when it first started and when the price was laughably low today these people are basically rich overnight  https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/dec/09/bitcoin-forgotten-currency-norway-oslo-home
, I'm kicking myself 'cos I've never heard of it back then and never done much research in currency and finance. I really hope there's some kind of crash that plunges the price down so I can put all my damn pocket money in it (USD 800).
Right now 1 BTC = USD 590 still too high I can't buy it just yet.
