Hello team, been a while since I have posted.

Have any of you guys experienced side effects from the Stryde?

If so, what was the short term outcomes after rods were taken out? Did any of the deterioration fill in.

Thanks all - Fellow Journey man

I'm interested in this as well.  I am a stryde patient (they are still in), and my X-Rays at full consolidation were clean.  That led me to believe there was nothing to be concerned with.  I'm wondering if that's wrong

Excuse me, what do you mean by 'they are still in'. Do you mean you haven't removed s nails yet or in the place where you did the surgery the s nails have come back there?

So, as for myself I am curious if anyone who actually had the hypertophy, and lysis, healed when they were taken out. Did the hole fill in? etc?

Hey dude, I had the same thing, but left them in a year longer, so I received some of the symptoms. Doc has me walking on crutches for 6 weeks as a precaution after removal. I would setup an appt asap have them x rayed, and removed asap, just so you dont have to deal with the head ache.

If you find any info on my original question, would appreciate it. I cant seem to find anything.

I just checked my X-rays from one day before removal. I do see some small amounts of bone fragmentation near the tip of some of the screws (fragmentation of extra bone growth), but no issues with the telescoping area of the Stryde nail. Overall I have thicker bone than I did before surgery. Remember, some people in the study actually got hyper bone growth from the metal ions instead of lysis. I have been walking without any weight bearing support since the day after my removal surgery. I may get an X-ray in 2-3 months to see how my screw holes are filing in and might be able to comment more on the areas with extra or fragmented bone at that time.

Thank you for your reply BelowTheMean.

I guess I was not so lucky, I had a bit of both lysis and hyperthrophy. Doc is taking precaution with me post removal, and I am walking on crutches on 1 leg for 6 weeks. I guess I am curious if anyone else has had this experience, and what the prognosis looked like for them.

Thank you and happy you are doing well

Hi Bone Stretching,

I had stryde nail surgery in Dec 2020. I am facing issues with the pain. Did the pain go away after the rod removal? Did you have your surgery immediately after the onset of pain?

I can tell you, I feel no pain at all with the rods out. Took me about 4 days to recovery from the surgical  wounds, but that is a cake walk. No longer feel screws, and feel way more flexible. Night and day difference. Surprised they dont speak more of this.

with that said, I was an unlucky one that got hit with a combo of hypetrophy (stronger bone), and lysis (weaker bone) at the juncture site.

Doctors orders are to walk on crutches  for six weeks on left left as a precaution. I appreciate the advise.

My advice is to take these out asap after you do not need them, why go through the hassle of the rods, and risks.

Any one had their taken out and had to deal with the stryde side effects? I think I may document my experience on my journal here, to help people out.

What I can say is, I feel no pain, and CAN WALK on my left leg, however using crutches for 6 weeks as a precaution.

Thanks for sharing the experience. I guess I have the same case. Combination of lysis and hypertrophy. I totally agree with you. I am ok walking with crutches but the pain is now killing me. I will schedule the surgery ASAP.
