LL veterans:
What was your experience like if you worked during LL? Did pain or lack of sleep seriously affect your work?
Hoping to get the ball rolling soon but I’m a little worried about the timing because I’m expecting a promotion at work and I could have a lot on my plate. Thanks in advance!
It affects cognition functions a hell lot! I'm workaholic, often spent 10h/day on computer without getting distracted. During LL, I could barely focus on any cognitive task for more than 30min. If you really have to work, especially good work for a promotion, I think you can start at about 2 month mark after surgery.
Ultimately though, it's best to pause your life for LL. Any additional mental stress will negatively impact your LL progress.

Thanks for the reply! Not what I wanted to hear but definitely what I needed to know.

What did you find reduced your stress the most during LL? Current plan this fall: watch alot of random youtube videos, close eyes
So we should expect to take off 2 months regardless of Precise vs Stryde? Can we work at all after surgery or should we expect to lose the whole year?
OK so, I just look back at my paper note. I had femur surgery on feb 1st. On feb 15th I logged "Feel like I can start cognitive tasks. Longer sitting on wheelchair in front of computer is less painful".
I took 3 month off for lengthening. I came back to work few days after consolidation started.
"Can we work at all" - Yes, you can. Just note that it will be hard. The hard feeling fluctuates during lengthening (neither increases nor decreases). 2w after surgery is surgery pain. After this is stretch pain. You constantly lengthen your muscle daily, meaning every day the muscle complains to the brain that it's uncomfortable with the new length. This feeling is what distracted you. In addition, you need to keep up with PT 3-4 times a day, each time could be up to 2+ hours. Reason is because stretching during LL is harder, so your body naturally requests more rest in between exercises. All of these added up, I chose to rather not work.
"reduced your stress" - I didn't work for 3 months, every day I listened to music, watched fun youtube videos, watched movies at night, slept 2-3 times, played the last of us 2
"expect to lose the whole year" - no shouldn't be this much. I took off in Jan, back to work in April.
I don't know stryde but I guess the uncomfortable feeling of muscles remains the same. The only difference of stryde is that you can stand/walk which promotes faster bone growth.

I think it's best to talk to the surgeon who did the LL. Everyone could be different.
I also suggest talking to the fellow LLers at the institute you chose to do your LL. They're the best sources of giving your hands on exp. If you have consultancy before surgery, ask if you can talk to a patient.

I have never been to hospital doing LL. I believe a lot of them are from different countries. If they can't communicate well in English, how to approach them when in LL hospital ?
I don't think you can approach them in the hospital.
This will be different among institutes. Paley's patients stay in Palm Beach during lengthening. So in my 1st consultancy, I asked the program manager to let me meet a patient. They all go to PT daily so it's easy to catch them outside. In pre-op meeting (day before surgery), I just lingered outside to talk to a couple more. Lol.. just try speaking English to them I guess. I've met many LLers from EU, China, etc and all of them communicated just fine.
