Quote from: hippo60 on April 12, 2023, 12:30:39 PMThat's very strange, but I'm glad you're satisfied with the result. My x-rays did match the device (to the best of their ability to measure it) and I was told it should be accurate.

I'm not sure why you make it binary, that's clearly not the case. You can't go from sitting in a wheelchair for months to walking normally immediately, right? You'll need time to improve your gait and build muscle. That's what I meant by walking 10 minutes, not that you can't weight-bear for longer, but that your muscles are the limiting factor.

Yeah I got my final lengthening estimate from my final height minus my starting height. That’s why I put ~8cm.

Yeah I think we are on the same page here. I haven’t thought about improving gait and muscle yet, probably because I am still not weight bearing (that’s what I was referring to as walking). That would probably take a few months, but I have good faith because back in WPB in PT I was walking like 15+ min on the antigravity treadmill.

Makes sense, I was just a little surprised with the timeline. Did Robbins offer any advice on both growth? Or just wait and let your body do it's thing?

Nope, other than keep taking vitamin d3 10k units and xarelto 10mg a day, as well as keep stretching. I am taking calcium gummies and drinking a lot of milk by my own choice (common sense for bone growth). My second last xray he told me that my bones are growing a little slower than average and may take 4 months to heal. He didn't bring this up at my final xray though and told me 2 to 3 months is the most likely before I can be fully weight bearing. The doctors tend to be conservative so I am hoping 2 months would be enough.

Did u take blood thinner in your lengthening phase which prevents blood clots? Do u have PT in rehab center now or just do some stretches works by yourself at home? How about your walking progress this week?

Yeah I’ve been taking xarelto 10mg (this is the bloodthinner) per day since like day 1 post-op. Just stopped today because I sent my new X-rays to Paley a few days ago and they told me I can now walk with crutches and can stand without support (also can stop the blood thinner). I don’t do anything other than like regular abs exercise that I did pre-op for years. No pain no anything. At this rate, I am on track to walk by early May. From the X-ray my left leg is pretty healed up to be honest. My right leg is like 2-3 weeks behind but making nice progress.

I tried to use crutches today and decided to just stick with my walker. Feel safer on the walker honestly. I’ve been crazy busy recently. Overall it’s been a very smooth journey. I may put my April X-ray if I got time, but probably will just put the May one.

Thanks a lot!
So u ve been taking xarelto almost 5 months? But another doctor told me that taking xarelto long time has a risk of bleeding, he just use them 1 month.
Anyway I expect you will walk without support soon. No pain anymore and get back your normal gait.😊

Yeah almost 5 months. I accidentally cut myself a few weeks ago and it was okay. I didn’t notice much difference in healing speed. I guess if you don’t take it you risk getting blood-clots.

It's not just a matter of some practice and getting used to it? They don't encourage you to use crutches? I imagine you'll be able to walk more...

I think so. If Dr permitted u walk with crutches. U just need more practice with crutches, don’t use walker anymore. Walk more with crutches everyday.
