stripes - 'to say those who went without the nail, they all have regrets...' is absolute nonsense - not everyone who went to volgograd writes a diary - i had external and absolutely no regrets whatsoever - i had safe lengthening and a great time - you should not make blanket statements like this...external is the safest way...(though not the quickest)

You’re right, I should clarify that I meant the patients that I met and spoke to that have completed the process. I’m not speaking for everyone - some patients who are still in the recovery period now are happy with their results without the nail. Of course I’m very aware that very few people that went to Volgograd actually write journals, in fact the vast majority of people that do this surgery never write a thing about it anywhere. What I was trying to say is that the patients that I was with that didn’t get the nail have mentioned either regrets because of how much longer the recovery was or because of complications they had afterwards because of the bone still being soft. Everyone’s experience is different, for me pure externals aren’t necessarily safer as of all the people I know that got the  nail - only one person had 1 small complication that was fixed shortly after - with pure externals I know of 3 issues related to soft bone movement.

hi stripes!

I'm happy to know that you're doing well, it's very assuring to hear from you that you don't have any regrets with doing LL and it's the best decision you made in your life, I'm planning to go to barinov this coming January and hopefully catch ibuse and other LLers who's in there now as we're in constant comminication. I have some few questions tho:

1. I assume that you still have the nails in your legs, is it weight bearing? I mean let's say you want to lift some weights in the gym specially that you want to gain the mass that you lose in the process, would it be possible?
2. If I can remember it correctly you lengthen 8cm and some of the LLers with Barinov lengthen more than that, you think it's safe? I also want to lengthen atleast 8cm but most of the people in this forum are quite against it.
3. What do you think of your proportion?
4. How's your scars?
5. Are you walking normally now? how many weeks/months can you walk normally after inserting the nail?

again I'm very happy to know that you're doing well, your diary and prince's are two of my favorites, hope you can keep updating it once in awhile, hope you can send a photo and video of you walking! haha, cheers stripes and enjoy your new height!

This is definitely the most amazing diary in the forums.

I just wanted to ask you one thing: can you tell me how much easier things would have been for you had you stopped at 4cm, and at 5cm? If I ever do LL, those are the numbers I'd settle on, so it'd help a lot to hear from you.

I'm also glad to hear you got over your height dysphoria, no longer rely on crutches and that your life seems to be going so well.

could you tell me how much you paid in overall?

And how did you manage to get off work for such a long time?

my biggest concern right now aside from the price tag is how i can possibly get off from work for months, nobody talks about it, i'm thinking about 8cm on my femur in Russia

contacted Dr Barinov several times , no answer
It seems to be hard thing to get a hold of doctors

Definitely a lot easier if I had stopped at 4/5. Would have shed a few months off I believe.

Here is the breakdown of the expenses in Euros:

14 500 EUR - LL Surgery + 1 month accommodation
300 EUR - roundtrip plane tickets from Brussels to Volgograd
1000 EUR - +1 month accommodation in clinic (this can be negotiated to be much, much less)
4000 EUR - nail surgery

An alternative to the accommodation in the clinic is living in an apartment. Here is the breakdown for the apartment expenses every month.

280 EUR - Rent, internet
66 EUR - Errand boy services (grocery delivery twice weekly)
53 EUR - Weekly cleaning service
78 EUR - Average monthly groceries (vegetables, meats, juice, eggs, sauces, snacks etc)
95 EUR - Chef services (comes 3 times a week cooks two days worth of food)
Total: 572 EUR a month.

As for work - I was still a student and was working part time. Btw - Barinov does not do femurs. I would avoid any procedure that involves external femurs.

Thanks for the breakdown, Stripe. Nice to get an idea on how much the other necessities cost.

Hi Stripe - really enjoyed reading this enlightening diary. Thank you very much for taking the time.

Did you know anyone doing LL with Dr Barinov who simultaneously used the procedure to correct bow legs? I am 180cm which is an okay height, but my calves are bowed. I sometimes get knee pain as a result. I often consider bow leg correction, and if it would be possible to gain another 5cm height as well that would be perfect.

I understand there are some Russian patients in the clinic who are there just for straightening. Did you meet anyone who did both lengthening and straightening, and how it turned out for them?

Update: Years later I'm doing well and happy. No major problems. I don't think about the surgery, I don't think about height. It's been about 10 years since I first created an account on this forum, about 8/9 years since I did the surgery. I'm not athletic that's for sure but I never was, I only ever experience any issues if im carrying a lot of weight uphill, my legs will hurt a little where the screws are in the nail since I never took it out. Other than that - not even something I think about. Thought about this today and decided to blow the dust off and login. Hope you're all doing well... not sure theres anyone even around from the days when I was here. For everyone thats going through the dysmorphia that I had gone through and solved.. my heart is with you guys. I know it's tough. I hope you're taking care of your health in other ways as well.. nutrition, exercise, grooming yourselves, proper medication if you need it. Passions and hobbies. Don't let it all consume you and take care of your physical health so you can also be rational. It's easy to self hate and ruminate on things that you think are so important when you're living an unhealthy lifestyle and your brain and body is depressed. Nicotine and alcohol are not helping your depression either. There was more than just LL that was necessary to become happy. That's what I want to share. Go easy on yourselves. It all gets better but you need to take care of your minds and bodies first - LL should not be your solution for all your problems - make life easier for yourself overall and make it a goal not the North Star goal.

<3 Stripes
