hi guys I am sergio from spain and wanna do the internal lengthening with precice method. with internals u can get infection of bone after nail is inserted. what happen then? can lengthening be complete after that?
my grandmother got infection after she broke her tibia after nail was inserted. so the doctor fastly removed the nail and put a new new after cleaning the bone inner side. but she was not doing lengthening so she was ok after that
what will happen if ur doing precice lengthening and you get infection?
They will do the same thing and will not lengthen unless infection is resolved. There is a video on youtube from Dr. Paley explaining this in a presentation.

dear indian
thank you so much for your answer
the risk is very high in the past ex fix patients. But for others its 1/100 at paleys center. This is quite scary operation. 1/100 chance that you will need to be on antibiotic for 3 months and after that do one operation for changing the nail and one more operation (possibility) for the bone graft!!
Is there some methods to know if you will get the infection without doing the operation and then seeing?
I have did one operation before for broken tibia and didnt get any infection. Does that means that I will not get infection for this surgery (or less chance)?

sergio
And can you get infection after many months after the operation? i will keep my nails inside for 2 years for safety but does that means that I can get infection on any day for 2 years??
MyEvolution got an infection from rebreaking due to preconsolidation. They'll flush you out with antibiotic or whatever antimicrobial for the microbe you're infected with and remove the nail while doing so.
Definitely something you want to avoid as it will increase your recovery time.

hi Going-For-Three
thank you for telling me about MyEvolution diary. I went through it and its just like what paley described in the video. Infection is the most serious complication for this operation!! i wish to see more examples of patients with the infection to understand what its like to go through that.
I think you need a lot courage to continue the lengthening even after you get the infection. I will personally stop the process if I get the infection.

sergio
In the video it states it is really 1/500 if you have had no prior ex fixes or bone infections. The sample size is too small to accurately assess.

paley has did several thousand procedures but not for the cosmetic need. So he can pull the statistics from those cases also. I don't know why he is using only the 500 cases here.
